Aspen goes to Michigan

It is a happy day for one lucky dog named Aspen. He went to a great family in Michigan who will take him to social dates with other show dogs. The lady's daughter is a groomer so he will keep up with staying beautiful.

I will miss him dearly, aand I still cry when I think about it too much. He was such a wonderful dog, I just couldn;t take care if him by myself since getting ill. I want to get a small one,one that I can bath and groom myself - and take care of any little things that may come up. I wonder if its too soon, but yet I have not been without a pet in over 30 years.

I'm looking at the shelters to see if there is one that needs a home - and that would fit in my home......

Panasonic SD-YD250 bread maker

So excited to make some fresh bread! I have been wanting to get this for years and even more recently for months! The opportunity made it available and now I'm just dying to try it out. Fresh warm bread sounds awesome! When was the last time you had fresh homemade bread? Updates soon!

Allergies and without my dog

Several weeks ago I made the decision to have my dog rehomed. It was a very difficult decision nd one I made with much heart ache. Aspen probably saved my life when I passed out and was down for several hours. I was out cold and I was unresponsive at the hospital, I believe I owe it to him that he probably kept touching me to keep me breathing, but I'll never know for sure.

That made it even more difficult to make the decision to rehome him. However, now I can't breathe because of him. His smell and body odor make breathing so very hard for me and I have COPD and emphysema - if you know anything about that, you know breathing is a daily struggle without any additional interference - Aspen (my dog) was too large for me to bathe as he is 73 pounds. He does bathe easily, but it was still beyond my ability.

Having family that I could depend on to find him the right home made all the difference also. I have talked to Jamie several times about the people who have called that are interested in him. I am really hoping that the lady that said she may drive down today (Monday), will indeed come. She sounds like the perfect home. But we will wait and see. I pray that the right family/home is chosen. He is truly a dog that is willing to do whatever is asked of him.

Sine I am involved in the rescue and rehoming of horses, I truly understand what people go through when they give up an animal they love. We do the same thing with horses and finding them the right home, not just the first home that comes along. A former dressage horse will NOT make a good barrel horse - and will not train your 12 yr old how to ride. We do right by the horse and the adopter - sometimes they just don't agree.

I hope my family and friends know that I am hurting, but I will get another dog when the time is right. I had to make the decision that was right for me - no matter how much it also hurt.

American idol

I have to say I'm enjoying some of the changes in the program this year. Putting people in groups instead of letting them pick their own makes for some good matches. I liked seeing the guys getting cut during the same show and not having to wait. Some shocking cuts but even more shocking seeing some get through. Now we have to wait another week for the girls....

I love watching Idol and picking who I think will make it to the finals!

Eye glasses and swelling

I need new glasses so after getting everyone ready and loaded up, it was off to the optical store. It didn't take long to pick out glasses and decide on getting transition lenses - the kind that lighten and darken automatically.

Then it was meeting Tony at Menards to pick up windows and look at vanities for their house. The kids did great at both places. It was me who started getting cranky since I hadn't eaten all day!!

So we were off to dinner at Texas Roadhouse! I called ahead to make sure we could get seated and we got right in. Our steaks were awesome with salads and potatoes. It was all marvelous.... Until I began feeling my ankles swell. OMG. And swell they did! By the time we got home I could barely get my feet in my shoes. On went my anti swelling socks - whatever they are called- and up my feet went. I also started on the lasix pills to get rid of the water. I'll be miserable for a day or so, but boy it was worth it. Thank you Texas Roadhouse!

I won't get my glasses for a few days since I got transition lenses - so I'll be going to pick up some cheater readers until I get them in. Thank you Rose Optical for all your help today.

Flying a kite in January

So we survived some storms tonight. We are fortunate enough to have a basement, but it was not needed tonight. The tornado warning was just to the north of us and we still had powerful winds and rain that was unbelievable.

Living at the rescue farm we do believe that there is a God bubble over the property at least for the last 6 years. We have been lucky in not having any severe damage to the farm when the storms have gone through. Yes we have had trees come down, but not on a barn or near the horses.

On the other side - the weather was great all day before the storms came in. It got up to at least64 if not warmer. I was able to go outside, walk around a bit they'd went to the best kite flying spot on the property! The winds were great for flying a kite, especially for Katelynn who is 3.5 years of age and could have stood flying that kite for hours! It was past lunch time and time for naps, so we headed back to the house. What a great day for the. End of January!

Until next time!

Cold Weather - Football and COPD

As with most people here in Indiana - I'm ready for SPRING! Since I'm in South West Indiana we don't normally get too awfully cold, but it has been bitter cold this week. Possible ice or freezing rain over night - but it too will pass and it is supposed to warm up after this, warm being over 30 degrees. I'm more of a 70-80 degree person since I have COPD and emphysema along with arthritis - as a former smoker I just have to say that quitting smoking is the hardest thing I have ever done. I actually had one doctor tell me he felt that nicotine was more addictive than cocaine.... so I guess I have defeated something evil. There have been many days that I still want a cigarette, but all I have to do is try to exercise and that thought goes out the window. The thing with all the problems with smoking is.... I did enjoy it. What they do NOT tell you is that yes, if you quit your lungs can recover - IF and that is a BIG IF - you don't get COPD or emphysema. They can not be reversed. You are just screwed. So, I wish there was a way to explain it to people - it sucks, no two ways about it. Now I can't catch my breath - it doesn't feel like an elephant is sitting on my chest - it just feels like I can't get any oxygen in my lungs...... I can't. Spring will be here soon and hopefully it will be decent weather and I will be able to get outside and actually do some gardening or mow the lawn. Hopefully we won't have the heat indices we had last summer. I plan to use my treadmill as soon as they get it set up for me - and take my glyco pills and with any luck, I will make myself get better..... I have 2 football games left in the year - the pro bowl this Saturday and the Super Bowl in another week! Go Team!

BCS football game

Watching the Notre Dame vs Alabama game wasn't much fun if you were hoping for an Irish win... Congratulations to bama and the Crimson Tide. so the Indpls Colts are also done for the year. I'm not sure who I will root for through the playoffs and super bowl....but I'm a football fan, so I'll be watching from the couch!

keeping up

I'd like to keep up with the Jones`s but for now I'll just try to start keeping up with my blog. depression is really hard to deal with, especially after an illness. I've come to realize that medication can be a wonderful thing, at least it has helped me lately! I've come to realize that I have to make new decisions based on my health and that some dreams will not stay on my bucket list..... I can add new dreams. working on making homemade bread and using my wonderful dehydrator are on the backburner until it is a one family house! too many cooks in the kitchen DO spoil things lol. hopefully I will have my home to myself soon and there will be tons to blog about. In the meantime I hope you will keep watching for updates !!
